The Law contains 19 articles, 12 directly related to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The remainder are related to the Turin’s hosting of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Finals, due to take place in the city from 2021 to 2025.

"Happy for the approval of the decree for the Milan-Cortina Olympics and the ATP Finals Turin, the result of a choral effort carried out with particular attention to the territories," Italy's Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora tweeted.

"Our country knows how to demonstrate great skills in important events."

Spadafora claimed the passing of the Olympic Law had been among his key priorities since becoming Italian Sports Minister five months ago.

"Italy is a solid and structured country which, in the most important and delicate events, mobilises the best energies, showing great skills," Spadafora said, according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

"The Government could and should give concrete and effective answers, long awaited at national and international level.

"We are already working to continue on the path outlined and prepare the additional necessary rules, which, by their nature, will follow the ordinary legislative procedure, and will allow Parliament to improve and enrich the efforts already made by the Government."

The Olympic Law includes an article which establishes a "Joint Olympic Council" for Milan Cortina 2026 at the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).

The Council is due to consist of 15 members, including representatives of the Lombardy and Veneto Regions, as well as officials from Milan and Cortina.

A President and two deputies will lead the Council, which will have responsibility for the general direction and oversight of projects required for the Games.

The Law confirmed that the Milan Cortina 2026 Organising Committee will be responsible for the management and organisation of sporting events at the Olympics and Paralympics, as well as promotion of the Games.

The Organising Committee named the "Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation" and consisting of a Board of 22 members was formally established in December.

A group titled “Infrastructures Milan Cortina 2026” will lead the construction projects for the Games, following the instruction of the Organising Committee.

The group will consist of five members, with three appointed by the Government and two determined by local authorities.

The Olympic Law also includes articles related to sustainability and the legacy of the Olympics, along with establishing tax provisions related to the Games.

Milan Cortina 2026 were awarded the Olympic and Paralympic Games at the International Olympic Committee Session last June in Lausanne.

The Italian bid saw off competition from Swedish rivals Stockholm and Åre 2026.
