Home heroine Adriana Diaz and Hugo Calderano, both of the top seeds, won the men's and women's singles titles on the final day of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pan American Cup in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

The men's singles final at the Coliseo Mario "Quijote" Morales was an all Brazilian affair with Calderano beating compatriot Gustavo Tsuboi by four sets to one - 11-3, 11-5, 11-3, 11-13, 11-3, 11-6.

Calderano overpowered his opponent with an impressive performance in which his backhand proved to be his most powerful weapon.

Meanwhile, the third placed men's match went to Jha Kanak of the United States who won in straight sets against Marcelo Aguirre of Paraguay 11-4, 11-6, 11-6, 11-4.

In the women's singles competition the top seed Adriana Diaz of Puerto Rico emerged triumphant winning in six sets against Lily Zhang of the United States with the final score 11-4, 11-2, 12-10, 7-11, 9-11, 10-8.

In front of 4,000 adoring home fans, Diaz won a high-quality contest which featured some impressive counter top spin rallies.

Speaking after the match Diaz described the victory as 'one of the happiest moments of my life.'

The women's third placed match went the distance, and included a marathon third set that went to 23-21.

From a set down and also three sets to two behind, Yue Wu of the United States overhauled Mo Zhang 9-11, 11-6, 23-21, 11-13, 6-11, 13-11, 11-3.
