South Korea finished top of Group A in the women's Olympic football qualifying tournament for Asia after defeating Vietnam.

Both South Korea and Vietnam progressed at the Asian Football Confederation event earlier this week, with the two teams meeting at Jeju World Cup Stadium in Seogwipo to determine who finished top of the group.

Jang Sel-gi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, before Choo Hyo-joo made it 2-0 in the 53rd.

Ji So-yun then recorded her third goal of the tournament with seven minutes to go, securing a 3-0 victory for South Korea.

They will now play the runner-up of Group B in the playoff round, with Vietnam taking on the winner.

There are still three matches to play in that tournament, with Chinese Taipei meeting China and Thailand coming up against Australia tomorrow at Campbelltown Stadium in Sydney.

The two winners in the two-legged playoff round will take the available places at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

China and Australia are the only two teams in the competition to have Olympic experience, with the former competing at five Games so far and claiming silver at Atlanta 1996.

Australia have featured in three Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals at Athens 2004 and Rio 2016.
