Jil Teichmann booked Switzerland's place in the Fed Cup finals with a victory over Gaby Dabrowski in their qualifying match with Canada. 

Switzerland went into today's deciding rubbers at the Swiss Tennis Arena in Biel with a 2-0 lead.

However, Leylah Annie Fernandez pulled a point back for Canada, stunning world number five Belinda Bencic 6-2, 7-6. 

Teichmann recovered the clash for Switzerland, easing past Dabrowski 6-3, 6-4 to put her country through. 

Spain were another country to progress, having also boasted a 2-0 lead over Japan from the first day of competition. 

Having already dispatched of Misaki Doi, Carla Suárez Navarro comfortably beat Kurumi Nara 6-1, 6-3 at La Manga Club. 

Germany also secured a clean sweep against Brazil at Costão do Santinho Resort in Florianópolis.

Laura Siegemund was the first victor, overcoming Teliana Pereira 6-3, 6-3.

Tatjana Maria then triumphed 6-3, 7-6 against Gabriela Cé, before Siegemund recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win against the same opponent.

Elise Mertens helped Belgium to a place in the Fed Cup finals after coming back from one set down to defeat Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan 1-6, 6-2, 6-1. 

Yulia Putintseva managed to bring Kazakhstan back into the tie with a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 result against Ysaline Bonaventure. 

Mertens then managed another victory, getting past Putintseva 6-1, 7-6, before Kirsten Flipkens secured the win with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Diyas. 

The United States let a 2-0 lead slip in a dramatic encounter with Latvia at Angel of the Winds Arena in Washington. 

Jelena Ostapenko first battled to beat Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, while it was another close encounter between Anastasija Sevastova and Serena Williams, which the former won 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. 

In the deciding doubles rubber, Kenin teamed up with Bethanie Mattek-Sands to triumph 6-4, 6-0 against Ostapenko and Sevastova. 

Belarus, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and US will join 2019 finalists France and Australia, wild card Czech Republic and host nation Hungary in the Fed Cup finals.

Competition is due to take place at the Laszlo Papp Budapest Sports Arena from April 14 to 19.
