Sochi_volunteersOctober 28 - Volunteers have replanted 2,400 specimens of rare and endangered plants away from the site of Olympic construction for the Sochi 2014 Games.

More than 300 adult animals - including a large number of eggs and the young of rare amphibians - have also been relocated.

The move marks the 100th measure put in place by the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee to promote the protection of the unique nature in the region of the Games and to improve environmental literacy among the Russian population.

Replanting the rare plants - listed in the Book of Endangered Species - was part of the complex natural measures carried out by Sochi 2014 construction partners.

Tens of thousands of trees have also been planted.

In order to minimise the environmental impact during the construction of Olympic facilities, modern drilling and construction techniques have been employed, alongside the use of environmentally-friendly building materials.
