Sweden’s Linn Svahn celebrated home success at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Cross-Country World Cup by winning the women’s sprint competition in Falun.

Svahn produced an impressive display, with the 20-year-old winning both her quarter-final and semi-final races.

A perfect day was completed when she triumphed in a close final where the top four skiers all finished within one second.

A narrow victory was claimed by Svahn in a time of 3min 23.54sec, with Russia’s Natalia Nepryayeva just 0.08 seconds behind as the runner-up.

Jonna Sundling secured a second Swedish medal by finishing third in 3:23.64.

Slovenia’s Anamarija Lampic, the sprint World Cup leader, missed out on the podium as she placed fourth in 3:24.47.

Lampic remains top of the sprint standings with 405 points, but Svahn is now only 20 points adrift following her triumph in Falun.

The men’s sprint competition saw Norway’s Pål Golberg and Erik Valnes finish first and second respectively.
