Top seed Xu Xin ruthlessly dispatched Chinese team-mate and Olympic champion Ma Long to clinch the men's singles title at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) German Open in Magdeburg.

Xu recorded a dominant 15-13, 11-8, 11-7, 11-5 victory over his compatriot in a one-sided final at ÖVB Arena.

Victory handed the 30-year-old world number two his second title of the event in the German city after he won the mixed doubles crown with Liu Shiwen yesterday.

It ended his recent run of final defeats - he had lost at this stage in 2018 and last year - and saw him claim an 18th ITTF World Tour title.

Xu defeated Lin Gaoyuan 11-6, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8 to reach the final, while Rio 2016 gold medallist Ma overcame Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov 11-3, 11-9, 11-13, 13-15, 11-3, 11-6.

Chen Meng won an all-Chinese women's singles final after fighting back from a game down to beat Olympic champion Ding Ning.

Chen, the top seed, recovered from a slow start and emerged with a 3-11, 11-1, 11-7, 11-3, 11-1 triumph.

The result extends Ding's run without a World Tour title - her last major victory on the circuit came in Bulgaria back in August 2018.
