Bowls England has announced their team for the 2020 World Bowls Championships in Gold Coast.

The men’s team includes reigning world champions Andrew Knapper, Jamie Walker and Robert Paxton, who took triples gold at the 2016 World Championships in Christchurch .

Paxton also achieved recent success on the Gold Coast in 2018 when he managed bronze in the men's singles at the Commonwealth Games.

Sam Tolchard, another bronze medallist from Gold Coast 2018, has been named on the team.

Nick Brett, set to make his first appearance at a major international outdoor competition, completes the men's quintet.

Despite his lack of outdoor experience, Brett is a multiple winner indoors on the World Bowls Tour circuit, earning the singles world title in 2016 and the mixed and men's doubles world title at Potters Resort, in the United Kingdom, this month.

The women’s line-up includes the Gold Coast 2018 gold medal winning trio of Katherine Rednall, Ellen Falkner and Sian Honnor, who will be joined by Sophie Tolchard and Lorraine Kuhler.

Falkner has five outdoor World Championship medals and four Commonwealth Games medals to her name, and brings a wealth of experience to the team.

"I think this team is equipped for success at these prestigious Championships.

"The selected players have the experience, compatibility, technical ability and winning mentality to perform under the conditions that they are likely to face in Australia.

"The World Championships is a fantastic competition for our sport and the Gold Coast will provide a fabulous setting to stage this premier event and deliver a feast of bowls for everyone to enjoy.

"I have every confidence in this team of players and look forward to sharing the experience with them as we compete against the rest of the world in what will be a hugely competitive and enjoyable event in Australia."

The 2020 World Championships are scheduled from May 26 to June 7, taking place at Broadbeach Bowling Club, Helensvale Bowling Club and Musgrave Hill Bowling Club.
