Hong Kong earned a place in the men's event at Tokyo 2020 by beating the Czech Republic in the World Team Qualification Tournament ©ITTF

Hong Kong and South Korea earned places at this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo after winning the men and women's International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Team Qualification Tournament respectively in Gondomar.

Hong Kong came up against Czech Republic in the men's final at Multiusos de Gondomar, with both teams vying for the only available place at Tokyo 2020. 

Ho Kwan Kit and Ng Pak Nam got Hong Kong off to a good start, coming back from one game down to defeat Lubomír Jančařík and Tomáš Polanský 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-7. 

Wong Chun Ting then extended Hong Kong's lead after battling against Pavel Sirucek to win 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 9-11, 11-7.

The victory was confirmed when Ng defeated Tomas Polansky 11-7, 11-6, 11-3.

South Korea then took the Olympic spot in the women's contest, facing a slightly tougher challenge against France

Shin Yu-bin and Choi Hyo-joo put South Korea in the lead by beating Stephanie Loeuillette and Yuan Jia Nan 8-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9, before Lee Eun-hye then won 13-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-4 against Marie Migot.

Yuan offered France a lifeline after triumphing 13-11, 11-8, 11-5 against Choi, but Shin secured the match with a 11-9, 11-9, 11-7 result against Migot. 

The Tokyo 2020 table tennis team line up is now complete, with 16 countries participating in the men and women's competitions.

China are the defending champions in both events.
