Japan's Yui Kamiji warmed up perfectly for her bid to win a second women's singles title at the Australian Open by winning the Melbourne Wheelchair Tennis Open.

The top seed defeated Britain's fourth seed Jordanne Whiley in today's final 6-2, 6-4.

Kamiji won the Australian Open in 2017 and will be aiming for a seventh grand slam title in all when this year's wheelchair competitions begin at Melbourne Park on Wednesday (January 29).

Britain also suffered disappointment in the men's singles final at the Hume Tennis and Community Centre as Belgium's fifth seed Joachim Gerard beat third seed Alfie Hewett 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In the quads singles final, an all-Dutch affair was won by third seed Sam Schroder 6-3, 6-2 over fourth seed Niels Vink.

Hewett gained redemption in the men's doubles as he joined forces with British team mate Gordon Reid to beat France's top seeds Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer 6-4, 0-6, 10-7.

The quads doubles final went to Australian Heath Davidson and American partner David Wagner, the top seeds.

They beat Schroder and Vink - the second seeds - 7-6, 3-6, 12-10.

The event is an International Tennis Federation 1 Series competition on the Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
