The Netherlands won two gold medals on day two of the season-ending International Cycling Union Track World Cup in Milton in Canada.

Laurine van Riessen won the women's sprint at Mattamy National Cycling Centre and Jan Willem Van Schip took home the men's omnium title.

Van Riessen's victory disappointed the home crowd as she beat Canada's Kelsey Mitchell, the Lima 2019 Pan American Games champion, in straight rides for gold.

The Dutch rider is an Olympic bronze medallist in speed skating, in the 1,000 metres at Vancouver 2010.

Madalyn Godby of the United States defeated France's Mathilde Gros 2-1 for bronze.

"I gave everything I had," Mitchell, who lives in Milton, said to Canadian Press

"The crowd was amazing.

"The adrenaline was pumping the whole time.

"I just have a lot to learn on the track.

"Hopefully, I'm going to take what I learned from here and bring it to the Worlds."

He won the tempo race and was second in the scratch race, elimination race and points race.

Daniel Staniszewski of Poland took silver on 137 points with American Gavin Hoover taking bronze on 134.

Britain's four-time Olympic gold medallist Laura Kenny took home the women's madison title, alongside Neah Evans.

The men's keirin title went to Germany's Joachim Eilers, the 2016 world champion in the discipline.

Kevin Santiago Quintero Chavarro was the silver medallist for Colombia, as Rafal Sarnecki took bronze for Poland.

The World Cup season concludes tomorrow with finals in the men's madison and sprint and the women's keirin and omnium.
