The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced that Team GB House at Tokyo 2020 will be located in the Japanese capital's Aoyama district.

It will be based at the new AoyamaTreehouse venue following a link-up with GlobalTreehouse Inc.

A short walk from the Tokyo National Stadium, which will host athletics and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the house is described as being in the "heart" of the city.

It is surrounded by the famous Akasaka Imperial Grounds and uses natural materials to create "a healthy and mindful experience".

On the venue's second floor, invited guests will be able to follow British athletes in competitions.

Private dining facilities and communal areas for athletes to spend time with their friends and family will also be available.

A Team GB shop will also be situated at the adjoining House of Aston Martin Aoyama.

The famous British car brand have already hosted several events for British delegations in Tokyo as part of the build-up to the 2020 Games, scheduled to open on July 24 and close on August 9.

"Team GB House will be an intimate and truly beautiful base for the athletes and the wider delegation; a place where we can come together and celebrate the achievements of the nation's finest athletes," said BOA chief executive Andy Anson.

"AoyamaTreehouse is a wonderful venue and we could not have hoped for a better place to call home for Team GB – we believe the athletes will love it and it will be an exciting place to be during the Games."

Most major nations set-up hospitality houses at Olympic Games.

As well as being a base for athletes, they can also be used for important meetings and are seen as a chance to boost relations with other countries.

The United States have chosen the Tokyo American Club for their 2020 base with France selecting a building connected to the Fuji Television Network.

Germany will be at the six-storey shopping mall "AQUA CiTY" and Italy have chosen The Kihinkan - Takanawa Manor House.

"Our members and staff are honoured for AoyamaTreehouse to be selected as Team GB House during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," said Fred Katsuro Schmidt, the co-founder and President of GlobalTreehouse.

"AoyamaTreehouse is a place for innovation and creativity, and hosting Team GB perfectly matches our concepts."
