The National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan held a three-day training seminar as part of the battle against doping.

Erkin Latipov, the organisation's director general, led the event in capital city Dushanbe, following a similar gathering last year.

Doping is a major issue for Tajikistan, as the country's only Olympic gold medallist, Rio 2016 hammer champion Dilshod Nazarov, was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit in September.

It followed the retesting of samples from the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu, with the case ongoing.

Nazarov was forced to miss last year's World Championships in Doha because of his suspension.

The seminar was held as part of the country's Sports Medicine and Protection Programme, which Latipov said had reached 1,500 people.

"This year we set a goal to bring all cities and districts of the country under the programme in three phases," he said.

"In the first round, eight field experts from the National Olympic Committee and the Youth and Sports Committee discussed various doping topics for three days.

"Now, in the second round, they will provide training for 89 specialists and trainers of sporting educational institutions.

"Then, in the third round, more than 5,000 teenagers and young athletes from 56 cities and districts will be introduced to the doping issues and the dire consequences of their use."
