The 33-year-old, an open and mixed pairs world champion in 2018, beat Scotland's Chris Carswell 10-4, 9-3 at Potters Leisure Resort's International Arena.

He will now go onto face the winner of tomorrow's match between England's Robert Paxton and South Africa's Craig Rimmington.

Chestney's last-16 tie is scheduled for January 21.

The other open singles matches set to take place tomorrow are those between England's Les Gillett and Ireland's Scott Jess, and Scotland's Alex Marshall and American Lawrence Quill.
