Karl Geiger of Germany was a winner again on the second day of competition at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup event in the Italian resort of Val di Fiemme.

The 26-year-old recorded his fourth World Cup win of the season, having already finished top of the podium in yesterday’s identical HS104 hill competition following his earlier victories at Wisła in Poland and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Geiger thus extended his overall World Cup lead after 12 of the 30 scheduled events - he has 819 points, with second place being held on 699 by the Austrian who finished one place behind him today, Stefan Kraft.

Third place today went to Poland’s Dawid Kubacki, fourth overall on 564 points behind Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi, who has 655.

Geiger recorded a best jump of 107 metres as he gained 285.2 points, with Kraft, who had a best of 103m, earning 280.5 and Kubacki finishing on 278.2.

Olympic champion Kamil Stoch was joint fourth with fellow Pole Piotr Zyla on 277.3.

The men’s Ski Jump World Cup series is due to continue in the German venue of Titisee-Neustadt next weekend, where there will be three HS142 competitions from Friday to Sunday (January 17 to 19).
