The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) has officially launched the application process for the 2020-2021 Paralympic Sport Development Fund, inviting organisations and clubs across the country to apply for the grant.

The fund targets Paralympic sport development initiatives which help develop athletes from the playground to podium, and supports a sustainable sport system.

Grants between CAD$5,000 (£2,900/$3,800/€3,400) and CAD$15,000 (£8,800/$11,500/€10,300) will be awarded.

Funding support goes towards sport development programming, including recruitment initiatives, coaching, equipment and competition.

Funds can be used to support the creation of a new programme, or the expansion of an existing successful initiative.

Last year, the CPC distributed CAD$200,000 (£118,000/$153,000/€138,000) across 25 different programnes or organisations.

The Paralympic Sport Development Fund is made possible through contributions from Sport Canada and the CPC.

"We encourage organisations across the country to apply for the Paralympic Sport Development Fund," CPC chief executive Karen O’Neill said.

"There are so many groups throughout Canada doing such great work to support the development of Paralympic sport and Para-athletes, and this fund is an important initiative to help grow programming and strengthen the system.

"We have seen strong results from past grantees and look forward to supporting more organisations and programmes this coming year."

The deadline to submit applications is February 21 2020.
