Australian Taekwondo's schools programme is in the final stages of its pilot phase before it is rolled out nationally next year.

Taekwondo Kickstarters is described as a fun and safe course which teaches children the martial art.

It has been developed alongside industry experts with the hope that it will be included in the national sporting schools programme.

For this to happen, approval is required from Sport Australia.

The programme can be taught by taekwondo instructors, or by school teachers and community coaches who can apply through an accreditation system if no qualified official is available.

Coaches can also buy discounted equipment to use in the programme, while schools will also be able to buy gear directly if Sport Australia's approval comes through.

Taekwondo centres across Australia are expected to engage with a greater number of schools and transition participants into community centres through the project.
