Antonio Dima has been elected President of the Italian Student Sport Association (CUSI).

The 64-year-old will serve a four-year term after he was elected unopposed at the CUSI General Assembly in Rome.

Dima takes over from Lorenzo Lentini, elected to the International University Sports Federation Executive Committee in November.

He had previously served as secretary-general of CUSI, the governing body for university sport in the country.

"We are aware of the evolution and importance of sport in universities, and we will have the utmost attention for inclusion and sharing," Dima said.

"We have rolled up our sleeves as important work awaits us.

"Knowing the past is fundamental to understanding the present and planning for the future."

Six women were elected onto the CUSI board during the meeting.

Spearheading a bid for the 2025 Winter Universiade could be among the main tasks for Dima during his term at the helm of CUSI.

Lentini revealed in July that the region of Piemonte in northern Italy had sent a request to CUSI for Turin to be considered as a candidate city for the event.

Naples hosted a successful edition of this year's Summer Universiade.

The Italian city stepped in to stage the multisport event in May 2016, after original hosts Brasilia withdrew due to financial concerns in 2014.
