Belarus' First Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Vyacheslav Durnov has been named the country's Chef de Mission for next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

As reported by Belarusian news agency BelTA, Durnov's candidacy was approved at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus (NOC RB).

He held the same role when Belarus hosted this year's European Games in Minsk in June.

Belarus finished second in the medal standings at Minsk 2019, amassing 24 golds, 16 silvers and 29 bronze.

Only Russia performed better, racking up 44 golds, 23 silvers and 42 bronzes.

Belarus have been represented at every edition of the Summer Olympic Games since Atlanta 1996.

At Rio 2016, the nation won a total of nine medals, comprising one gold, four silvers and four bronze.

The NOC RB Executive Committee's meeting also saw the approval of the results of the organisation's performance and permanent commissions for 2019.
