South Africa will play in front of a home crowd at the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series for the first time, having been invited to contest tomorrow's competition in Cape Town.

The hosts will join the 11 core teams at the Cape Town Stadium for the three-day tournament, running until December 15.

"Preparation has gone well over the past few weeks and we are just happy to get going and are focusing on ourselves - that's the most important thing," South African captain Zintle Mpupha said.

"The girls are very excited.

"It will be the first time for the team playing in front of a huge crowd, especially a home crowd, as it's something that has never happened to us and it means a lot to us to play in front of them.

"Walking out there on Friday is going to be a huge honour."

The US are seeking their second World Series win, having topped the podium at the season-opener in Glendale.

Competition will start tomorrow with two pool matches, continuing on Saturday (December 14).

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and gold-medal match are scheduled for Sunday (December 15).
