Organisers of the 2020 Asian Beach Games in Sanya have launched their emblem and slogan.

The emblem features blue, green, yellow and orange colour blocks shaped into the number six to represent the sixth edition of the event.

The image of a coconut tree, an athlete and a deer combines the concept of ocean, beach, sport and the tropical landscape together with the symbol of Sanya, a resort city on the southern end of China’s Hainan Island.

The shining sun emblem of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is prominent in the design.

The English slogan "See Ya in Sanya!" is claimed to be a short, youthful and friendly catchphrase for visitors from all over Asia and beyond.

It is said to represent the relaxed and family-oriented concept of the beach and sea sports festival.

Sanya Mayor A. Dong stated the emblem and slogan had been chosen from 3,218 submissions after coordination with all relevant parties and expert evaluation, before being submitted to the OCA for approval.

"We are sure the emblem and slogan for the Asian Beach Games will contribute to the sports and tourism concept of Sanya city and Hainan province," he said.

The ceremony to launch the emblem and slogan took place at the scenic Luhuitou Peak Park, which offers spectacular views of Sanya’s sweeping bays and the South China Sea.

The OCA was represented by vice-president Song Luzeng and also sent messages of congratulations from honorary life vice-presidents Raja Randhir Singh, who is the chairman of the OCA Coordination Committee for Sanya 2020, and Wei Jizhong, as well as director general Husain Al Musallam and the director of international and National Olympic Committee relations Vinod Tiwari.

In his message, Wei said next year's Asian Beach Games would highlight Hainan’s "prosperity and development" and further open up Sanya to international tourism.

As well as cultural performances of dance and music, the ceremony included a drone show depicting several of the beach sports that will be contested at Sanya 2020 and ended with the slogan "See Ya in Sanya!" being lit up in the night sky.

The 2020 Asian Beach Games are due to run from November 28 to December 6 and feature 17 sports.

In September, Singh claimed preparations for the event are on the "right track" following the OCA Coordination Committee's second meeting with organisers.

Sanya is known as the "Hawaii of China" for its long, golden beaches, sparkling blue sea, luxury resorts, and lush forests and gardens.

The previous hosts of the Asian Beach Games were Bali in Indonesia in 2008, Oman’s capital Muscat in 2010, Haiyang in China in 2012, Phuket in Thailand in 2014, and Danang in Vietnam in 2016.
