The match between Uruguay and Tahiti determined the final qualifier from Group B.

It followed Italy sealing their progression to the quarter-finals as group winners after they beat Mexico 6-2.

Tahiti, the two-time runners-up, appeared to have done enough to qualify for the next round after beginning strongly at the Estadio Mundialista "Los Pynandi" in Luque.

A dominant period of the match saw Tahiti move into a 5-1 lead, which would have seen them leapfrog Uruguay in the group standings.

But late goals from Gaston Laduche, Marcelo Capurro and Nicolas Bella helped Uruguay reduce the deficit to 6-4.

The result was enough for Uruguay to advance to the next round on goal difference, with Tahiti having required a three-goal victory to progress.

Japan and Switzerland were already guaranteed places in the quarter-finals after sealing the top-two spots in Group A with a match to spare.

Japan were confirmed as Group A winners after they beat Switzerland 5-3.

Hosts Paraguay ended their participation in the tournament by beating the United States 5-1.

Japan are dye ti Uruguay in the first quarter-final on Thursday (November 28), with Italy taking on Switzerland.

The full quarter-final line-up is set to be decided tomorrow with Group C and D set to conclude.
