Youth_hockeyOctober 26- An event designed to let young hockey players experience the thrill of a professional tournament gets under way on  Thursday (October 28).

The 2010 Futures Cup will feature more than 300 of the country's most promising young talent at Cannock Hockey Club in Staffordshire in action until Sunday (October 31).

It represents the culmination of months of development, training, competition and selection as part of the England Hockey Board's long term athlete development strategy - the Single System.

Over the past four months, the young athletes - all aged between 15 and 18 - have received hockey coaching and advice on fitness, nutrition and lifestyle management at 12 Junior Regional Performance Centres across England.

Melissa Bennett, the EHB's national manager for the Single System, said: "The Futures Cup provides a fantastic opportunity for young players and officials from across the country.

"Participants will experience a hockey tournament in a performance environment with the focus on implementing the core skills developed over their training sessions."

The Futures Cup also offers youngsters an opportunity to showcase their abilities to the coaches of the England Hockey under-16 and under-18 teams.

Supported by Man, a world-leading alternative investment manager, the Futures Cup is designed to replicate the professional environment of an international hockey tournament.
