Australia beat Nigeria to progress from Group B ©FIFA

Australia secured their place in the last 16 of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in Brazil.

Goals from Noah Botic either side of Peter Olawale's strike at the Estádio Bezerrão in Gama sent Australia through to the knockout round as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Nigeria had already qualified for the next stage of the tournament as Group B winners.

Ecuador joined Australia and Nigeria in progressing from the group as a late goal from Johan Mina gave the South Americans a 3-2 victory over Hungary at Estádio Olímpico in Goiânia.

Andras Németh netted a brace for Hungary but it was not enough as Pedro Vite, John Mercado and Mina ensured Ecuador took second place in the group.

Hosts Brazil completed the group stage with a 100 per cent record as they eased to a 2-0 win over Angola, the surprise package of the tournament so far.

Talles Magno and Veron got on the scoresheet for the Brazilian team, who have conceded only once in their first three matches.

Brazil, who had already qualified before the final matchday, topped Group A ahead of Angola, while New Zealand beat Canada 1-0 to give themselves a chance of progressing as a best third-placed side.

Groups C and D conclude when the tournament continues tomorrow.
