France's Anthony Jeanjean and Britain's Charlotte Worthington have been crowned as the inaugural winners of the BMX Freestyle Park European Championships.

The pair triumphed in Cadenazzo in Switzerland with the event also serving as an Olympic qualifier ahead of the discipline's debut at Tokyo 2020 next year.

Forty-eight riders from 13 countries took part with Jeanjean taking home the men's title with 93 points.

Croatia's Marin Rantes was the silver medallist on 91.20 as Britain's Declan Brooks took bronze on 91.

Worthington rode to a convincing victory in the women's event as she topped the pile with 91.60 points.

Germany's Lara Lessmann took home silver on 84.60 and a score of 82.80 was enough to give Russia's Elizaveta Posadskikh bronze.

Rocco Cattaneo, the President of organisers the European Cycling Union, said: "BMX freestyle is a new discipline which has exploded in popularity and it was natural for us to organise the first European Championships.

"The global success of this event in terms of participation, public and live streaming views proves that this discipline is destined to grow significantly in the future.

"The Union Européenne de Cyclisme is very attentive to the promotion of cycling and this is why we have introduced some new important features to our calendar."
