Perth has been announced at the host city for the 2020 UniSport Div 1 and Div 2 Nationals.

Around 6,000 interstate and 1,000 student athletes from local universities will come together for the Nationals between September 26 and October 2 next year.

The UniSport Australia event sees individual and team competitors from 43 Australian universities gather for badminton, basketball, futsal and golf, among other sports.

A range of venues will be used across Perth, including the Bendat Basketball Centre, State Netvall Centre, HBF Stadium and Champion Lakes Regatta Centre.

UniSport chief executive Mark Sinderberry said: "Beyond this amazing opportunity for the participants, we also recognise the significant role participation in sport plays in student well-being and positive learning outcomes.

"The Nationals provide a wonderful opportunity for university students to compete and enjoy inter-university rivalry in a fun and friendly environment."

The Div 1 and Div 2 Nationals are presented by UniBank, a bank dedicated to the university sector, and supported by the State Government through Tourism WA and VenuesWest.

UniBank general manager Mike Lanzing said he was delighted the Nationals will return to Perth as UniBank was founded in the University of Western Australia in 1964.

He added: "We know that sport and exercise is an important part of being happy and healthy, just like being free from money worries.

"We've been supporting uni students with better financial options for over 55 years, options which meet their needs and help them achieve lifelong financial wellbeing."

The event was last held in Perth in 2016, when it was run as UniGames.
