Two-time Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva has been appointed chair of Russia's Association of Student Sports Clubs (ACCC), it has been announced.

The ACCC was set-up in 2012 with the aim of helping develop student sport at university level and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Isinbayeva is the greatest female pole vaulter in history.

The 37-year-old also won three World Championship titles and set 28 world records during her career which ended in 2016.

Isinbayeva is also a member of the International Olympic Committee having been voted onto its Athletes' Commission three years ago. 

In addition to Isinbayeva, the ACCC Congress also voted to appoint Russian chess grandmaster Sergei Karjakin as co-chair.

Karjakin holds the record for the world's youngest ever grandmaster, having qualified for the title when he was only 12.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has attended several meetings of the ACCC and claimed that it has an "extremely important state mission".
