German skiing stars have been signed-up as ambassadors for next year's International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Junior World Championships in Oberwiesenthal.

The athletes will support their home event which will see young athletes compete in cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined between February 28 and March 8.

Among the number are ski jumper Jens Weissflog and Nordic combined athlete Eric Frenzel, who are both triple Olympic gold medallists.

They are joined by double world champion ski jumper Richard Freitag and cross-country skier Katharina Hennig, a three-time Junior World Championship medallist.

All of the ambassadors will be tasked with promoting the youth event and the youngsters taking part.

"The FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships are a huge chance for Saxony and the region," said Frenzel.

"It is a big stage for the young athletes to show their performances to a home crowd and I am very much looking forward to it.

"I remember taking part in my own Junior World Championships, which meant a lot to me.
