Brazil's Gustavo Tsuboi and Vitor Ishiy will meet in the semi-finals after cruising through their last eight matches in the men's singles at the International Table Tennis Federation Pan American Championships in Paraguay.

The duo were part of the Brazilian men's team which claimed gold on Thursday (September 5) and second seed Tsuboi needed six games to see off Horacio Cifuentes of Argentina.

Cifuentes took the opening game before Tsuboi fought back to record a 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5, 11-9 win.

Ishiy enjoyed a more comfortable passage to the last four, winning 11-7, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 over Alberto Mino of Ecuador.

Top seed Kanak Jha of the United States progressed with a 11-5, 11-7, 11-7, 12-10 victory over Brazilian Eric Jouti.

Jha will face Argentina's Gaston Alto after he edged a seven-game thriller against Marcos Madrid of Mexico.

Alto trailed 3-1 before fighting back to win 11-9, 9-11, 7-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-6.

In the women's semi-final, Lily Zhang of the US will face Canadian Mo Zhang.

The American won 11-6, 11-5, 11-8, 11-3 against Brazilian Bruna Alexandre, as Zhang reached the last four with a 5-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6, 5-11, 11-3 triumph over Jessica Yamada of Brazil.

The other semi-final pits Yue Wu of the US against Bruna Takahashi of Brazil. 

Wu saw off Mexican Yadira Silva 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6, while Takahashi booked her last four spot with an 11-7, 11-7, 11-13, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9 victory against Puerto Rican Melanie Diaz.
