The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revealed the five-strong shortlist for its Allianz Athlete of the Month award for August.

British triathlete Claire Cashmore is among the contenders after winning her first world title in the women's PTS5 class in Lausanne.

Cashmore kicked for the line in the home stretch in the Swiss Olympic capital, dethroning compatriot Lauren Steadman as world champion.

The 31-year-old is a Paralympic swimming gold medallist who has now switched to triathlon.

Table tennis player Joyce De Oliveira is another nominee after a superb showing at the Parapan American Games in Lima.

The Brazilian won all of her matches in the women's singles class four and team events as she took home a pair of gold medals.

Her display also earned Brazil a qualification spot for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Two champions from the World Para Badminton Championships in Basel are also in the frame for the monthly prize.

Hungarian canoeist Peter Pal Kiss completes the nominees after the 16-year-old became KL1 world champion on home water in Szeged.

Nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees and International Federations.
