The European Olympic Committees (EOC) have reminded the 50 National Olympic Committees of Europe to submit nominations for the summer Piotr Nurowski Best Young European Athlete award.

Nominations close on September 9, with the EOC then forming a longlist from the submitted applications.

The European National Olympic Committees will then select a shortlist of five athletes, to be invited to the EOC General Assembly in Warsaw on October 25 and 26.

The winner is announced on October 26.

They will receive prize money of €15,000 (£13,600/$16,500), with the second- and third-place finishers securing €8,000 (£7,200/$8,800) and €5,000 (£4,500/$5,500), respectively.

Athletes finishing fourth and fifth will both receive €3,000 (£2,700/$3,300).

All the finalists will be awarded with financial support for training and educational purposes.

The award is named after Nurowski, the former President of the Polish Olympic Committee who died in 2010 in a plane crash in Russia.

The EOC created the summer award in his honour in the same year, with a winter prize introduced in 2016.

Austrian racing cyclist Laura Stigger won the 2018 summer edition, while the winner of this year's winter edition was 14-year-old Russian figure skater Alexandra Trusova.
