Maria Rodriguez continued her superb form at the World Bowling Women's Championship in Las Vegas, reaching the semi-finals of the masters competition.

The event features the 24 bowlers who recorded the highest combined scores across the qualification rounds for the singles, duos, trios and team events.

Colombia's Rodriguez entered as top seed after boasting the best score of 5,488, an achievement which saw her crowned all-events world champion.

She also has semi-finals to look forward to in both the doubles and trios events, and came from behind to beat Singapore's Bernice Lim 2-1 in a best-of-three, last-eight clash.

"It is what we want to do in events like this," the Colombian said after her display at South Point Bowling Plaza.

"The pair was hooking a lot so I had to move way left and go deeper.

"I was patient and gave the lanes time to break down a little, and I got some good breaks.

"I'm not sure how I will play the lanes in the finals.

"We will just wait and see what is happening then."

Singapore's Cherie Tan, American Danielle McEwan and Finland's Sonna Pasanen also booked semi-final places.

All four players have guaranteed at least a bronze medal.

Tan, the fifth seed, earned her spot with a 2-0 win over Russia's Maria Koshel, while seventh seed McEwan knocked out fellow American Missy Parkin 2-1.

Pasanen, seeded 19th, saw off South Korea's Hyerin Son 2-0 in her quarter-final.

"I am so excited to bring home another medal for Team USA," said McEwan.

"I will do my best and hope it is the gold.

"It is always tough bowling against a friend and team mate, but it happens every week on tour and we just hope both of us bowl well and the pins fall how they are supposed to."

Action continues tomorrow in Las Vegas with the semi-finals and finals in the singles, doubles and trios competitions.
