El Salvador's Yuri Rodríguez and Paulina Zamora have been honoured for their success in fitness and bodybuilding competitions at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

The duo won two of the country's three gold medals at the Games, which concluded earlier this month in Peru's capital city.

Rodríguez triumphed in the men's bodybuilding competition, seeing off the challenge from Colombia's Carlos Giraldo and Guatemala's Jonathan Martinez.

The women's bikini fitness event saw Zamora emerge as the winner.

She finished ahead of Mexico's Xyomara Valdivia and Chile's Macarena Figueroa.

Bodybuilding made its debut at the Pan American Games in Lima.

The gold medallists were greeted by El Salvador Sports Minister Yamil Bukele on their return to the country.

Bukele presented Rodríguez and Zamora with prizes and plane tickets to compete in International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) World Championship events.

Fabrizzio Hernandez, President of the El Salvador's national fitness and bodybuilding federation, was among those present at the event.

Arruda was among the national federation presidents and athletes to attend a reception with the country's President Jair Bolsonaro.

The event was scheduled to celebrate Brazil's success at the Games, with the country having had its best performance at the event for 50 years.

Brazil finished second on the medals table, behind the United States, winning 55 gold, 45 silver and 71 bronze.
