A host of Paralympic champions and medallists have been named on a 257-member United States team for this year's Parapan American Games in Lima.

The US team, announced by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), comprises 159 men and 98 women, including six guides and pilots.

The team will be represented in all 16 sports except five-a-side soccer, during 11 days of competition from August 23 to September 1.

"I am honoured to welcome this talented group of athletes to the US roster for the Parapan American Games,” said USOPC chief executive Sarah Hirshland.

"We are excited to cheer them on in Lima, and we look forward to supporting every member of the American team as they pursue success both on and off the field of play."

Four-time Paralympic cycling medallist Joe Berenyi and three-time Paralympic champion Jeremy Campbell is one of 114 Paralympians to make the team.

Campbell won gold in the pentathlon and discus throw at Beijing 2008 and successfully defended his discus title in London four years later.

The US team includes 67 Paralympic medallists and 36 Paralympic champions.

The men's and women's wheelchair basketball teams and the women's sitting volleyball side arrive in Lima as the reigning Paralympic champions.

Paralympic qualification for Tokyo 2020 is on the line in five sports, with sitting volleyball and goalball places on offer to the winners, provided they have not already qualified.

The US men's wheelchair basketball team will secure a place at Tokyo 2020 with a top-three finish, while the women's team can qualify with a top-two finish.

The singles winners of the wheelchair tennis tournaments will also earn an individual slot at next year's Paralympics.
