It coincides with the announcement that applications for participation in the lottery for the initial offering of Paralympic Games tickets will be accepted from residents of Japan from August 22 to September 9 this year.

A record 4,400 Para-athletes will compete at Tokyo 2020 in 540 events across 22 sports, which will be held at 21 venues in Japan's capital, Saitama, Chiba and Shizuoka prefectures.

Events featuring the most popular sports are spread throughout the Games, with athletics and swimming events scheduled for all but two of the 12 days of the Games.

Of the total 300 sessions, 109 will include medal events.

Overall, events have been scheduled so that they will be easier for families to attend and to allow as many people as possible to experience them.

The latest sessions in 19 out of the 22 sports are scheduled to finish before 10pm local time.

Tokyo 2020 claims it took into account the athletes' experience and well-being, technical rules and regulations of the various International Federations, gender balance, the popularity of individual sports in Japan, operational considerations, and global television audiences when determining the schedule.

On August 26, the day after the Opening Ceremony, the first medallists of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will be determined.

They will be in the women's cycling track C1-2-3 3,000 metres pursuit, which will take place in Shizuoka.

On the same day, medallists will be determined in a total of 24 events, including 16 swimming races, four wheelchair fencing events, and four track cycling events.

August 30, the middle day of the Games, will be "Golden Sunday", with 63 medal events being held – the most of any day during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

These will include 20 athletics finals, four in triathlon, four in mixed rowing, 13 in swimming and five in judo, as well as the gold medal match in wheelchair rugby.

On September 1, there will be 61 medal events.

Athletics will feature the largest number of individual events at the Games and all athletics sessions will include finals, resulting in 168 medal events.

Badminton and taekwondo, newly-introduced to the Paralympic Games, will be two of the highlights of the latter half of the Games.

The first Paralympic badminton medallists will be determined on September 5 and 6, the last two days of the Games, and medal events will be held during all three days of the taekwondo competition from September 3 to 5.

Wheelchair tennis, a sport which carries high Japanese hopes, will take place on September 4 and 5.

On September 6, the final day of the Paralympics, a total of 15 final events will be held in badminton, men’s wheelchair basketball, women’s sitting volleyball, athletics marathon and shooting.

The last medal session of the Games – men's wheelchair basketball – will take place at 10am that day.

It is claimed tickets for all sports are being offered at affordable prices.

Seats at competitive events will be priced from JPY¥900 (£7.08/$8.55/€7.63) and will cost no more than JPY¥7,000 (£55/$67/€59).

This is part of the Organising Committee’s commitment to enhance the family atmosphere at the Paralympic Games and attract as many young spectators as possible.

Tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will cost from JPY¥8,000 (£63/$76/€68) up to JPY¥150,000 (£1,200/$1,400/€1,300).

"At the last editions of the Paralympic Games one of the many highlights has been the outstanding atmosphere created by the capacity crowds who have been in absolute awe at the sport they have witnessed.

"The offer for Japanese sports fans is very straight forward: come and see a fantastic and affordable sport event, featuring some of the world’s most amazing athletes, that will change your life forever.

Athletics, in which Japan won 16 medals at the 2017 World Championships, including two golds, will take place at the new Olympic Stadium each day from August 28 to September 5, with tickets ranging in price from JPY¥2,000 (£16/$19/€17) to JPY¥6,500 (£51/$62/€55).

Tickets for Paralympic swimming events at Tokyo 2020 will cost between JPY¥2,000 (£16/$19/€17) and JPY¥7,000 (£55/$67/€59).

Seats for the wheelchair rugby final will cost JPY¥3,200 (£25/$30/€27) and JPY¥4,000 (£31/$38/€34).

Tickets for these events will cost between JPY¥1,800 (£14/$17/€15) and JPY¥6,500 (£51/$62/€55).

Residents of Japan must apply for tickets online via the Tokyo 2020 official ticket website.

Pre-registration on the TOKYO 2020 ID portal is necessary to enter the lottery.

The lottery results are due to be announced on October 2, with payments due by October 15.

This represents the best opportunity for residents of Japan to get the tickets they want for the Paralympic Games.

However, should they not be successful, they will still be able to request tickets during the second lottery, commencing in early 2020.

A further phase of ticket sales is scheduled to start in the spring of 2020, offering first-come, first-served sales on a global basis.
