Emil Frey Ltd will provide transport at the 2021 International University Sports Federation Winter Universiade in Lucerne after signing a sponsorship deal with the Organising Committee.

The deal sees the car dealership become Lucerne 2021's first Gold Partner, the event's highest sponsorship category.

The company has signed on as the official partners for cars and commercial vehicles for the Winter Universiade in two years' time.

Car rental company Hertz, part of the Emil Frey Group, will supply more than 250 cars and commercial vehicles to transport officials and athletes around the central Swiss city between January 21 to 31.

“We are very pleased with this partnership agreement," said Lucerne 2021 managing director Urs Hunkeler.

"Emil Frey Ltd is an experienced mobility partner closely involved with sport in Switzerland and the active support of athletes.”

The Swiss Alps will host the Winter Universiade for the first time since Villars staged the 1962 edition.

Ten sports will be contested, including ski orienteering, which was added to the sports programme for Lucerne by the FISU Executive Committee in July.

More than 2,500 athletes from 540 universities are expected to take part in the Universiade.
