With only the mixed synchro competitions not included in the Olympic Games programme next July, there are a wealth of opportunities for divers in Kyiv

Ukrainian eenager Oleksiy Sereda caught the world's attention when finishing fourth in the men's 10 metre platform final at the World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju and will carry home hopes as competition gets underway in Ukraine's capital city.

The 13-year-old also finished fourth in the mixed synchro 10m platform final in South Korea and will bid for medal success when the event is due to take place on Friday (August 9).

The biennial Championships were also held in Kyiv two years ago and President of the Ukrainian Diving Federation Igor Lysov admitted he was delighted the city could stage them again.

"We are very happy to welcome back the diving family and very proud that Kyiv can host this event for the second time," said Lysov at an opening press conference.

LEN Technical Diving Committee member Georgia Fyrigou-Consolo added: "We are always keen to come here as we can’t wish for any better venue and more professional organisation."

The programme in Kyiv is set to begin with the mixed team competition tomorrow evening, with France bidding to defend its title from the 2017 European Championships.

Competition is due to conclude on Sunday (August 11) with the men's 10m platform final.
