Unseeded Angus Ng Ka Long has reached the final of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thailand Open after stunning seventh ranked Kanta Tsuneyama at the Huamark Indoor Stadium.

The pre-tournament withdrawals of the top two seeds in the men's singles, Japan's Kento Momota and China's Shi Yuqi, raised the possibility of a lower ranked player making it deep into the BWF Super 500 event.

The draw opened up for Hong Kong's Ng when fourth seed Chen Long of China lost in round one, and meant he did not have to face a seeded player until coming up against Japan's Tsuneyama today.

Ng rose to the occasion, triumphing 21-9, 23-21 in 43 minutes.

He is set to play third seed Chou Tien-chen in the final after the Chinese Taipei player defeated unseeded Malaysian Lee Zii Jia in straight sets.

Chou has not dropped a game all tournament and continued his dominance with a 21-14, 22-20 victory in 46 minutes.

In the women's draw, top seed Chen Yufei is also yet to drop a game in Bangkok as she defeated unseeded Sayaka Takahashi in her semi-final.

The Chinese player has been clear favourite ever since the women's singles second, third and fourth seeds all withdrew beforehand, and she continued to show why against the Japanese underdog.

Chen claimed victory in 43 minutes, beating Takahashi 21-16, 21-19.

She is now due to play number six seed Ratchanok Intanon in tomorrow's final after she beat Pornpawee Chochuwong in an engrossing all-Thai semi-final.

In a back-and-forth encounter, Intanon finally got the best of her unseeded opponent to win in three sets, 23-21, 17-21, 21-19.
