Emilios Monos of Greece and Ireland's Eve McMahon took the lead in the boys' and girls' events, respectively, after the second day of racing at the International Laser Class Association Laser Radial Youth World Championships in Canada.

Monos surged to the top of the boys' standings in Kingston with two victories.

The Greek sailor opened up a three-point lead over Turkey's Yigit Yalcin Citak, who sits second on six after he was second in both races today.

Ireland's Tom Higgins, the leader following the first day of competition, is third on nine points.

In the girls' event, McMahon moved into top spot with a bullet and a discarded 13th place to end the day on eight points.

The Irish athlete is seven points in front of nearest challenger Matilda Nicholls of Britain, who occupies second on 15.

Hunter Dejean of Canada is a further three points adrift in third place.

More than 200 sailors from 32 countries are competing at the event in the Canadian city, which continues tomorrow.
