Top seeds Portugal secured the last available place at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup after they beat Spain on penalties at the UEFA qualifier in Moscow.

Portugal won the shootout 2-1 at Luzhniki Park after the fifth-place playoff had finished 5-5 at the end of extra-time.

A late goal from Rui Coimbra levelled the contest and sent the match to penalties.

The win for Portugal sees them join Russia, Italy, Switzerland and Belarus as the European qualifiers for this year's Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay.

Paraguay were given an automatic World Cup berth as hosts.

Brazil and Uruguay qualified from South America; Nigeria and Senegal from Africa; Japan, Oman and United Arab Emirates from Asia; Mexico and United States from North America; and Tahiti from Oceania.

Russia won the European qualifier with a comprehensive 7-1 thrashing of Italy in the final.

Both teams, alongside Switzerland and Belarus, progressed to the World Cup finals by finishing in the top two of their respective groups.

The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is due to run from November 21 to December 1.
