Yana Egorian, Olga Nikitina and Sofya Velikaya combined to triumph 45-40 over Cécilia Berder, Manon Brunet, Charlotte Lembach and Caroline Quéroli at the Hungarian capital's SYMA Sports and Conference Centre.

Six of those seven fencers competed for their respective countries at last year's World Championships in Wuxi in China, with Nikitina the only exception.

Sofia Pozdniakova was Russia's fourth team member. 

South Korea replicated their bronze medal-winning performance from 2018 by beating Italy 45-35 in the third-place playoff.

There was also disappointment for France in the men's foil team final as Erwann Le Pechoux, Enzo Lefort, Julien Mertine and Maxime Pauty lost to the United States' Race Imboden, Alexander Massialas and Gerek Meinhardt.

The American side, which also included Miles Chamley-Watson, prevailed 45-32 to improve on their country's silver medal-winning performances in 2017 and 2018 and claim a first world title in the event.

Italy, winners in 2015, 2017 and 2018, overcame Russia 45-32 in the bronze medal match.

Russia finished top of the overall medal standings with three golds, three silvers and one bronze.

France came second with two gold medals and three silvers, while South Korea ranked third with two golds and two bronzes.
