The event at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Canadian Olympic training Regatta Kingston (CORK), which was established in 1969 by a group of enthusiastic sailors.

CORK emerged as an established event on the international regatta circuit, with excellent training opportunities becoming a priority for athletes, coaches and volunteers.  

This experience and expertise made CORK the preferred choice as the sailing venue for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

CORK has hosted 43 World Championships to date and as many as double that number of North American and Canadian Championships.

"Twenty-nineteen marks a symbolic year for CORK as we celebrate our 50th anniversary," Marianne Davis, executive director of CORK, was reported as saying by Scuttlebutt Sailing News.

"CORK sailing events have welcomed the world to Kingston since 1969, including the 1976 Olympic Games and more than 40 World Championships."

Two races will be held back to back on each of the six days of the event, scheduled to conclude on July 31.
