Shanahan triumphed in the women's 400 metres individual medley in 4min 43.92sec at Baku Aquatics Centre.

It was a dominant swim from the Briton, who finished nearly seven seconds faster than silver medallist Lia Csulak of Hungary.

Csulak finished in 4:50.50 and the bronze medal went to Italy's Chiara Fontana in 4:52.21.

Grgić reigned supreme in the men's 400m, touching the wall in 3:52.10 to beat Germany's Silas Beth, second in 3:52.63.

Greece's Alexandros Kachris won the bronze medal in 3:53.53.

The first athletics gold medal was also decided today and it was clinched by Italian Gabriele Gambath, winners of the boys' 10 kilometres walk in 45:15.74.

Spain's Paul McGrath clocked a season's best of 45:51.64 to earn the silver medal, while Turkey's Mustafa Tekdal claimed the bronze in 46:06.57.

Georgiana-Lavinia Antuka secured Romania's first gold of the Games as she topped the podium in the women's 46 kilograms wrestling competition.

Antuka sealed the gold medal by defeating Azerbaijan's Gultakin Shirinova in the final.

Azerbaijan remain top of the medals table after day two following Hasrat Jafarov's success in the men's 60kg Greco-Roman division.
