Top seed Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland beat India’s Rituparna Das in three games today to book her place in the semi-finals of the women’s singles event at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Russian Open in Vladivostok.

Gilmour, the silver medallist at last month’s European Games in Belarus' capital Minsk, prevailed 21-10, 16-21, 21-16 as action continued at the BWF Tour Super 100 event at Sport Hall Olympik.

Next up for her is the United States' Iris Wang, who defeated Hungary’s Laura Sárosi 21-13, 21-13 in the quarter-finals.

The other semi-final pits Switzerland’s Sabrina Jaquet against seventh-seeded Taiwanese Pai Yu Po.

Jaquet overcame Japan’s Moto Hayashi 21-15, 16-21, 21-17, while Pai claimed a 21-11, 21-8 win over Bulgaria’s Mariya Mitsova.

In the men's singles event, second-seeded Indonesian Shesar Hiren Rhustavito remains on course for success after reaching the last four with a 21-16, 21-7 victory at the expense of Spain's Pablo Abian.

Standing between him and a place in the final is fourth-seeded compatriot Ihsan Maulana Mustofa, who beat India's Siril Verma 21-11, 29-27.

Third seed Loh Kean Yew of Singapore is also through to the penultimate round thanks to his 21-14, 21-10 win over Indonesia's Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

His next opponent is Japan's Kodai Naraoka, who followed up his victory over top-seeded Indian Subhankar Dey yesterday by defeating Ireland's Nhat Nguyen 21-11, 21-17.
