Italy head coach Angela Adamoli has admitted she is expecting a competitive tournament when Lignano hosts the latest leg of the International Basketball Federation 3x3 Women's Series this weekend.

The 2018 World Cup winners are one of eight nations competing at the event, due  to begin tomorrow and conclude on Sunday (July 14).

Italy will take on world champions China, Romania and Spain in Group A, while Group B features Hungary, Ukraine, the Netherlands and Canada.

France, winners of the fourth series competition of the season in Ekaterinburg in Russia, have not entered.

It means none of the three teams to have claimed victory this year – France, Australia and the Czech Republic – will be in action in the Italian town.

It gives the eight participating countries the chance to earn their first Women's Series silverware of the campaign.

"China, the world champions, Romania and Spain in our group are top-level teams, which shows how competitive the Women's Series is," said Adamoli.

"It will be a nice experience for Lignano for everyone, and it is a source of great pride that it is being played in Lignano and in Italy."

The fifth series event of 2019 is scheduled to begin with group stage matches tomorrow before the knockout phase, including the final, is played on Sunday (July 14).
