South Korean taekwondo player Lee Da-bin has targeted adding Olympic gold to the world under-73 kilograms title she claimed earlier this year.

The 22-year-old topped the podium at the World Championships in Manchester in May and is aiming for further success on the global stage at next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Lee took gold in the over-67kg division, which is on the Tokyo 2020 programme, at last month's Grand Prix in Rome but believes she needs to be physically stronger if she is to add the Olympic title to her growing list of international honours.

"At the next Grand Prix in Chiba there will be more powerful athletes who come so I want to do more weight training," she said.

"I want to train more for the physical side."

Lee added: "When I get a gold medal: that feeling makes me very happy.

"My first goal is to qualify and, if I get it, I want to get a gold at the Tokyo Olympics."

Lee also claimed she had become mentally stronger this year, citing how she overcame Briseida Acosta of Mexico 10-4 in the final in Rome as an example.

"In the fight [against Acosta] I overcame the mental side," the double Asian Games gold medallist said.

"Before that competition, when I was in a bad situation it was hard for me to overcome it.

"But against Acosta I came from behind and achieved on the mental side."
