Guernsey made a promising start to the Island Games with two gold medals in triathlon on the opening day of action at the multi-sport event in Gibraltar.

Joshua Lewis claimed the men's triathlon title ahead of Isle of Man's William Draper in a time of 2hr 03min 51sec.

Draper took silver in 2:05:22, while Oliver Turner of Jersey earned bronze in 2:06:00.

Guernsey won silver in the women's race as Súsanna Skylv Sørensen got the Faroe Islands off the mark with gold in 2:31.27.

Megan Chapple was second for Guernsey in 2:32:56 and Lynsey Elliott of Isle of Man secured bronze in 2:36:59.

Medals were also on offer in athletics today as Louis Gordon won the men's high jump with a best effort of 2.02 metres.

Benjamin Le Rougetel added another medal to Jersey's total as he clinched silver having cleared 1.99, the same height achieved by bronze medallist James Margrave of Isle of Man.

Kärt Õunapuu had earlier triumphed in the women's long jump, taking gold for the Estonian island of Saaremaa.

Õunapuu topped the podium with a best of 6.19m as she dominated the rest of the field.

Mora Orevik of Gotland claimed silver on 5.90, some 0.11 farther than bronze medallist Bethan Pilley of Isle of Man.

Isle of Man's Tara Ferguson sealed gold in the women's individual town criterium cycling race.

Ferguson edged out Jersey's Rebecca Catley after she completed the course in 49:23.54.

Catley was narrowly behind in second place, while Ferguson's team mate Ellen Barker was the recipient of the bronze medal.

Alan Corlett later won the men's 10,000m for Isle of Man after he crossed the line in 32:06.26 to beat two rivals from Gotland as Daniel Antonsson and Fred Gronwall claimed silver and bronze, respectively.
