The German displayed all his class and experience in piloting his 10-year-old home-bred stallion to victory in the French capital and was rewarded with a standing ovation.

Ahmann, 44, is now the latest rider to qualify for the star-studded LGCT Super Grand Prix at the GC Playoffs in Prague in November.

"It has been an amazing week, I already had my daughter Ella born on Monday,” Ahlmann said.

"My concentration was not what it should have been. 

“Judy wasn’t happy when I went (to the show). 

“She said I had better do well this weekend – I think she is happy now!

Ahlmann added: “I had to work hard and my horse had to work hard. 

“He jumped fantastic in the qualifier and this is his first Grand Prix win today. 

“I can’t be more happy and more proud of my horse.”

Belgian rider Celine Schoonbroodt-de Azevedo finished second in the heavyweight contest aboard Cheppetta with home favourite Kevin Staut third on Calevo 2.

Pieter Devos of Belgium retains the overall rankings lead on 224 points, with Germany’s Daniel Deusser and Britain’s Ben Maher just behind on 215 points.
