The Commonwealth Games gold medallist and reigning Pan American champion won 21-16, 21-14 in front of her home crowd at Markin MacPhail Centre in this BWF Super Series 100 event. 

Li will take on fifth seed An Se-young for a place in the semi-finals after the South Korean beat Japan's Hirari Mizui 15-21, 21-10, 21-6.

Second seed Saena Kawamaki crashed out as she lost 21-12, 21-10 to Japanese team-mate Natsuki Oie.

Oie's reward is a quarter-final clash with China's Wang Zhi Yi, a 21-11, 21-16 winner over Chinese Taipei's Hung Yi-Ting.

China's Zhang Yi Man, the fourth seed, is also out as she was beaten 21-10, 18-21, 21-17 by Ayumi Mine of Japan, who will face sixth seed Kim Hyo-min of South Korea.

In the men's singles, Chinese Taipei's fourth seed Wang Tzu-Wei, the highest-ranked player left in the tournament, qualified for the last eight.

Wang booked his quarter-final spot with a 21-17, 21-9 win against Denmark's Victor Svendsen.

Heo Kwang-hee of South Korea awaits for Wang in the next round.

India's sixth seed Parupalli Kashyap is also still standing as he overcame Ren Peng Bo of China 23-21, 21-23, 21-19.
