Maikel van der Vleuten of The Netherlands secured a thrilling victory on Beauville Z in the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco on the 10th leg of the circuit.

Barely a second separated the top four riders in a breathtaking 10-way jump-off at the iconic Prince's Palace in Port d'Hercule.

Qatar’s Bassem Mohammed and Gunder were runners-up, while France’s Julien Epaillard and Usual Suspect d’Auge were third.

"It’s incredible – this horse really fights for me," van der Vleuten said.

 "I spoke with my dad earlier this week as to whether it was too early to bring him (Beauville Z) here as first horse but it happens sometimes.

"When I saw Julien on the screen, I could bet on it that he should win, he went full out everywhere. 

“I was just a bit faster and gave it everything today. 

"I had some nice forward distances and the horse really worked for me."

The Dutchman, who becomes the 10th rider to qualify for the LGCT Super Grand Prix at the Prague Playoffs in November.

"A few times I’ve come very close to qualifying," he said.

"It was my goal to take part in the Super Grand Prix this year, so now it’s done, it feels good.”

There is no change at the top of the leaderboard in the overall Championship race.

Belgium's Pieter Devos continues to lead the way. 

Ben Maher of Britain is in front of Germany's Daniel Deusser and victory in Monaco pushes van der Vleuten up to fourth with nine events left.

The LGCT race is now due to to Paris next, with leg 11 taking place in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower from July 5 to 7.
